11, 2005. Commercial crab fishermen spotted the trapped whale around 8:30 a. m. Sunday and began making calls for help that eventually reached Mick Menigoz, a Novato fishing boat captain who also leads whale-watching tours, according to the fishermen and divers. Menigoz, 48, received assistance from six scuba divers and three staffers at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, Calif. The group located the entangled whale around 2:30 p. m. six miles from the Farallon Islands, a chain of rocky islands about 30 miles west of San Francisco.
